VACATION DESTINATION: DOMESTICATION
I took the week off from work, back in March or April when the schedulers declared "Get in your summer time off requests soon so you don't get denied". I just realized how incredibly opposite my life is. I spend the rest of the year working my butt off, road tripping on motorcycles, concerts, camping, marathons, music etc. So for my week off in the summer? I stay home, take care of my house, laundry, home cooking, grocery shopping, gardening home improvements. I actually look forward to it because it is rare. I do have a couple of things planned, a concert at Snow farm winery in the islands, an 8 mile road race and bridal shower, but other than that I am home. I am even hanging my laundry out, it smells so nice :) Current Mood: peaceful | | Saturday, August 25th, 2007 | | 9:07 pm |

first time fast
Sat I did the best race in the world http://www.100on100.org/I was runner three. My first leg was 7 miles at a 7:38 pace, second leg was 4.7 miles at a 7:20 pace and my third leg was 4.5 miles at a 7:13 pace. I don't think I've ever run that fast. I must admit leg three was mostly downhill Killington mountain, but hey, I'll take it. I am so running a sub 4 marathon at Baystate. (fantasy goal =qualify for Boston @3:45) Next year I want to do the VT 100 on 100 then in sept do the Reach the Beach. Has anyone done this one? I'd like to know if it is better as a 12 man team or an ultra team. And any good advice for it. Also has anyone run Baystate Marathon? | | Sunday, August 19th, 2007 | | 10:46 pm |
I got shot right in the buttocks- Forest Gump
I think I figured out why I feel like I need my right cheek replaced after a long run or race. I ignored and othotic PA 6 years ago when he suggested orthotics,(I over pronate due to flat feet) and bought asics Kayanos, which worked for about 6 years. I wonder if this is why I shrunk half an inch. Leg Length Discrepancies There are two different types of leg length discrepancies: congenital and acquired. By Dr. Dennis Kiper, DPM Posted Wednesday, 22 March, 2006 Congenital means you are born with it. One leg is anatomically shorter than the other. Through developmental stages of aging, the brain picks up on the gait pattern and recognizes some difference. The body usually adapts by tilting one shoulder over to the "short" side. A difference of under a quarter inch is not grossly abnormal, does not need a lift to compensate and usually does not have a profound effect over a lifetime. Differences over a quarter inch can take their toll on the spine and should probably be compensated for with a heel lift. In some cases, the shortage can be so extreme that it requires a full lift to both the heel and sole of the shoe. The acquired shortage is by far the most problematic. In my practice, I see four problems always associated with acquired shortage: 1iotibial band syndrome (pain on the outside or lateral part of the knee). Piriformis syndrome (butt pain, not to be confused with sciatica, where the pain runs down the back of the leg). Hip pain. Low back pain. Contrary to popular belief, the acquired shortage is a pronation problem, first and foremost. The reason is that, while you may look identical on both sides of your body, the left and right don't work exactly the same. The same goes for pronation. As you develop, the brain picks up on the patterns of two feet, recognizing the slight variation in gait. The body compensates by rotating one of the hip bones (called the ileum). The ileum can rotate either backward and downward (called PI Ileum for posterior inferior) or forward and upward (AS Ileum for anterior-superior). This pulls the leg higher into the hip socket, causing the leg to function short, changing the alignment of the muscles around the hip and spine. Unfortunately, this causes those muscles to work unequally and inefficiently, and ultimately causes pain. This pain is most commonly felt with big mileage on the bike or while running. Non-athletes tend to notice it after carrying heavy loads in one hand. The pain can occur at the end of the activity or the next morning, with accompanying stiffness. In addition, this functioning shortage puts a mild tweak into the sacroiliac joint, further compounding the motion inefficiency. A visit to a chiropractor will help, but only temporarily. To see if you have a functional shortage, stand in front of a mirror, relax and let your shoulders drop. If necessary, jump up and down from foot to foot to shake yourself out and let your shoulders fall into place. Look at yourself squarely. Is one shoulder lower than the other? Step far enough back so you can place your thumbs on the bony points in front of your hips. Can you tell if one thumb is lower than the other? Is it on the same side as the lower shoulder? If so, chances are you have an acquired or functional shortage. This commonly happens on the same side as your dominant hand. Don't be surprised if you have an acquired shortage. Approximately 85% of the world's population exhibits this condition, and two-thirds of them experience pain related to it at some time in their lives. What can you do about it? Conditioning and stretching. An overthe-counter arch support to help reduce pronation (which in turn helps reduce the stress and strain of inefficient muscles) and preferably a "soft" lift of a quarter inch, which should be changed every six months. Look at the heels of your shoes. If you've let them wear down too far, this can contribute to pain flare-ups and injuries. Editor's Note: Dr. Kiper is the developer of the Silicone Dynamic Orthortic. It works!
I just did a 5k in 24:12.0. I was third in my age group, yay. last year in this race I was 24:46.6 I also recently completed a marathon in 4:14:01 taking 5 minutes off my PR. I think what is making the difference is intervals. I do a group run on wednesdays, and we do intervals(I'm not really disciplined enough to want to do them otherwise). I've only done it 5 times or so, I am hoping to make it a routine. Who would have thought all those experts were right? | | Saturday, June 16th, 2007 | | 2:17 pm |
kinda creepy
yes, you are right, the dolls are kinda creepy, they do resemble us, I had mine still hidden at the bottom of a gift bag, thanks for making me pull it out! Maybe B will fall in love with it one day and insist on taking it home. On second thought, bad idea. I see a new horror flick, girl takes home creepy doll, any friends that spend the night and are not nice, suddenly disappear, bad things happen, girl gets blamed. She can't have the doll. | | Monday, May 28th, 2007 | | 8:15 am |

Marathon, 8am, help me........
My marathon is at 8 am. I feel physically sick. Why am I so scared, I have no confidence. This is number 6, I should be over this. All my long runs sucked hard, I am afraid what that means for tomorrow. ickkkkk. It's only one day, I can suffer for a few hours, I've done this before. Maybe it won't be that bad. Maybe I will have a great day, lots of energy, won't go out to fast, pick people of at the end, beat my PR. That's it, think positive... A while back, someone blogged about how irritating bumper stickers. Picture this, I rush home from work to feed and walk the girls, rush back out to try and get to a class that I'm pretty sure I'm gonna be late for. I get stuck behind a Dodge 4X4,and what was on the back, I just have to share. Gut deer? Ditch the Bitch, let's go hunting. If its got tits or wheels, its gonna give you trouble. I honestly don't have the words, to do the driver of this truck justice. Please help. Current Mood: indescribable | | Friday, April 6th, 2007 | | 2:22 pm |
Ass transplant
I did my 20 mile run today, actually I mapped out a 21 but I walked/hobbled the last half mile. I'm not gonna sugar coat it. It hurt. My mantra was "just keep going and you'll get done". My everything hurts, I feel like I just ran the marathon, but I guess thats what you get when you don't run all week and then pull off a long run. Anyone know any good surgeons? I need an ass transplant. And why after a long run am I soooo coooold!? Current Mood: cold | | Saturday, March 31st, 2007 | | 11:50 am |
Theres a new movie coming out on DVD starring Anna Nicole Smith
Yes, the timing is bad, but Notice the director. I believe he is my sisters boyfriend from 7th grade. Hmmm sissy? Or maybe his brother Mike. running at the track vs outside vs treadmill
I did 17 miles today, however I ran at an indoor track. I was originally going to do 16, but I felt so good I did 17, which got me back on track for my marathon (had to work last weekend so I did 10 instead of 16). I wonder if it counts as much, running on the track or the treadmill. I did 14 miles two weeks ago with my running group outside, and actually that felt easy too. I really enjoy the track over the treadmill, and outside over both, IF it is nice out. But I wonder if it seemed easy because I was on the track, and if it counts as a long run. There are no hills, however I did hill repeats earlier in the week, so maybe it all comes out in the wash. I'm training my body to use my glycogen stores right? Im a PIG
I registered for the marathon, May 27. Started my training, 11 miles yesterday, 3 today. My problem is this, whenever I up my mileage my appetite becomes insatiable! I am not a large woman, 5 foot 6, 128 pounds. But I eat more than 2 large men. I am the only person I know that gains weight during marathon training. Does anyone know how to cut back my appetite? I especially cant stop eating carbs, 3 servings of pasta is normal. Upping my fiber helps me feel full a little bit longer, but too much is uncomfortable for running. My work mates joke about the size of my lunch. I wish I could eat like a girl. Current Mood: full | | Saturday, January 27th, 2007 | | 12:59 pm |

Sunday running group
I've started doing long runs on Sundays with a running group. They are a great group of people, all different abilities, I really enjoy them. We run in a different place each time which keeps it interesting, and allows us to view a lot of great scenery. Comeradery and running is a strange and wonderful experience. A post Thanksgiving run First Run 2007, I was a tiger. Last sunday run, 8 miles fast, about an 8:30 pace, because it was so freakin cold! But that made it an adventure! The halfway turn around, after that we went out to brunch, then I went home and slept, and spent the next 3 days in bed with the stomach flu. Not a good time. | | Thursday, January 25th, 2007 | | 7:59 pm |

Jesus' Face On A Dog Door? Two dog owners decided not to get rid of their pets after a "divine" intervention. They believe the pets left an image of Jesus on the dog door. Updated:2007-01-17 15:41:51 Chimp Gives Birth Under Strange Conditions AP SHREVEPORT, Louisiana (Jan. 17) - In a mysterious bit of monkey business, a female at a chimpanzee sanctuary has given birth, despite the fact that the facility's entire male chimp population has had vasectomies. Now managers at Chimp Haven are planning a paternity test for the seven males who lived in a group with Teresa, a wild-born chimpanzee in her late 40s who had the baby girl last week. Workers have started collecting hair samples from the chimps for testing. Once they identify the father, it is back to the operating room for him. Chimp Haven managers said they knew something was up when Teresa was missing during morning rounds on January 8. Later in the day, she appeared with a newborn chimpanzee in her arms. "Well, we were all just a little bit surprised when we heard the news," said Linda Brent, a spokeswoman for Chimp Haven. The baby chimpanzee was named Tracy and she and her mother are doing fine, Brent said. Teresa had 10 other offspring before retiring to Chimp Haven over a year ago. This is her first baby in 13 years. It is also the first chimpanzee born at the sanctuary although officials there hope there will be no more accidents. Chimp Haven provides long-term care for chimpanzees who are no longer needed for laboratory research. It was established by a group of primatologists and is located on 200 forested acres about 20 miles southwest of Shreveport. The first chimpanzee residents began arriving in 2005, according to the sanctuary's Web site. Copyright 2007 The Associated Press | | Friday, January 12th, 2007 | | 11:44 am |

Its a good day to be a dog. Its my only day off, tomorrow starts the 7 day stretch. We slept in, had breakfast, went for a walk, then the dog park where they ran, wrestled, visited friends, played chase and ball. Then home, they each had a bath and got their nails clipped. Now they are curled up in a fluffy little warm ball on their own couches.I couldn't possibly love them any more. Current Mood: loved | | Friday, December 29th, 2006 | | 7:05 am |
